Previewing IPL playoffs
After a promising start, the Mumbai Indians fell behind in their race to finish in the top two but their win over the Kolkata Knight Riders, a comeback from behind would have done their confidence no harm. A fourth loss in a row would have been painful, especially with a knock-out game coming up in two days.
Chennai, on the other hand, were probably staring at the wrong end of the barrel when they went down to Bangalore and Kolkata looked like they were cruising away to a win against the Mumbai Indians. Then, James Franklin decided to have some fun at the expense of Kolkata and Chennai catapulted into the top two – thereby getting the chance to enter the final twice.
Bangalore have been difficult to stop and the reason for that has Chris Gayle. The one time that Gayle failed in the previous game against Punjab and the Bangalore side lost. Around all that, the side has won seven of the matches.
Kolkata were hard done by a momentary lapse in concentration against Mumbai Indians, but will still have a chance to go through to the next round. Despite the game to be played at the Wankhede Stadium, there will be enough turn and bounce in the surface to assist the likes of Iqbal Abdulla and Shakib al Hasan, even as one will expect Gautam Gambhir to bowl more of Yusuf Pathan in the game.
